Informa Telecoms & Media is holding its annual Mobile Financial Services conference on March 9-10 in London. The conference presented a good opportunity to hear views of leading industry experts on the status of the mobile banking and payments industry. It was interesting listening to the discussions and opinions of the speakers and attendees on how they feel the industry evolved in the last year, what has changed, the success stories, failures, key issues and concerns, and what’s needed to drive the growth of mobile financial services over the coming years.

The last two years have seen mobile social networking and community based services and applications receiving growing attention and investment from the mobile industry.
In September 2008, Informa Telecoms & Media conducted the annual Mobile Content & Services Industry Survey. Of the 307 telecom industry professionals who participated in the survey, 71% believed that social networking & community services will have a significant impact on driving P2P uptake of mobile content.

Mobile operator Orange plans to launch a new service that includes a package of five cinema channels in France from November. The content on the channels will be available for viewing as live broadcasts as well as on-demand. Orange will license content from Warner Bros, Metro Goldwyn Mayer, HBO, Gaumont, BAC Films, Wild Side Films and Fidelite Film for this service.
